EMPOWERHER FUND FAQs:

Who is eligible to apply for a grant?

Eligible applicants include women-led organizations, grassroots groups, or individuals who identify as women and are leading community-based projects that benefit women and girls in NYC. The Fund does not support business start-ups or personal ventures.

Can I submit multiple applications per quarter?

No. Each applicant or organization may submit only one application per quarter. If multiple applications are submitted, only the last one received will be reviewed. Please consolidate your strongest proposal for consideration.

Can previous grant recipients apply again?

Yes, but priority may be given to new applicants. If you are applying for the same project, you must provide clear updates on progress and demonstrate why additional funding is needed.

Are there any background checks for applicants?

Background checks may be conducted if a project involves working with vulnerable populations or requires fiduciary responsibility.

What types of projects are NOT eligible for funding?

How are grant proposals evaluated?

Proposals are evaluated based on:

  • Innovation – Is the project addressing a unique or underserved need?

  • Measurable Objectives – Are there clear goals and metrics for success?

  • Community Engagement – Does the project involve the community in design, execution, or feedback?

When will I be notified about my application?

Only funded applicants will be notified within 21 business days following each submission deadline.

What is the grant amount?

The maximum grant amount is $1,000.

Can I change my project scope or budget after funding?

Yes, but written approval from the Fund trustees is required before any changes can be made.

What happens if I do not use the funds appropriately?

You may be required to return the full grant amount. You may be disqualified from future funding and/or legal action may be taken in cases of fraud or misuse.

What are the reporting requirements?

Grantees must submit: A financial report (with receipts) within 30 days of receiving funds. A final impact report summarizing the project’s achievements.
